Best for Beaches: April–May & October–November
The transition months between the two monsoon seasons offer the calmest seas, clearest water, and most pleasant temperatures. These are the ideal months for beach lovers, snorkelers, and underwater photographers. Humidity is moderate, and rainfall is at its lowest. These shoulder seasons also offer better hotel rates than peak periods.
Best for Diving: March–May & September–November
Visibility underwater reaches 30+ meters during the calm inter-monsoon periods. The waters teem with whale sharks (August–November), manta rays, and sea turtles. March to May offers particularly flat conditions on both sides of the major islands.
Southeast Monsoon: May–September
The cooler, drier 'southeast trade wind' season brings consistent breezes ideal for sailing and windsurfing. The southeast-facing beaches can be choppy, but northwest-facing beaches remain sheltered. Temperatures average 24–29°C. This is considered the 'dry season' with less rainfall, though brief showers are still possible.
Northwest Monsoon: November–March
The warmer, wetter season brings higher humidity and occasional heavy rain showers (usually short-lived). Temperatures reach 27–32°C. Northwest-facing beaches are calmest during this period. This is peak season for European visitors escaping winter, so hotel rates are highest from December to January.
Turtle Nesting Season: October–February
Hawksbill and green turtles nest on Seychelles beaches from October through February, with peak activity in November–December. Several islands offer guided turtle watching experiences. Hatching occurs 6–8 weeks after nesting, making January–March excellent for watching baby turtles reach the ocean.
